NAPW Binghamton Local Chapter Launched June 25th and Chapter’s Mission, Board, and Goals were Discussed; Momentum Continued at Follow-Up Meeting in August

Members and guests of the Binghamton Local Chapter gathered on June 25th for a professional networking meeting at the Groundwater Sciences Corp. conference room in Vestal. It was the first official meeting of the newly launched Chapter, which is the latest of NAPW's nearly 400 Local Chapters around the country. Many items were discussed at the first meeting and members and guests continued the momentum at Chapter's second meeting on August 23rd when Chapter's Mission, Board, and Goals were established.

Domonica Creeley, the new Chapter President, kicked off the inaugural meeting by warmly welcoming everyone and setting the evening's agenda. She invited members and guests to introduce themselves and talk about why they joined NAPW and what they would like to gain from this experience. Members were asked to drop their business cards in the Grow bin for a networking exercise and a chance to win a prize.

"The members then discussed some of the member benefits that NAPW has to offer and what items they have taken advantage of," said Domonica.

At the launch meeting, the Binghamton Local Chapter's Mission and Goals were discussed. The
Chapter reviewed local charities that the Chapter may support and enlisted member Rebecca Zeeuw as the Charity Chair to review the list of charities and narrow it down to three. It was determined that the top three choices would be presented at the August meeting.

In addition to Rebecca, other members elected to the Chapter's Board include Betsy Dunda, Communications Chair and Gerri Harrison, Guest Speaker Chair. There are still two open positions, Meeting Coordinator, which is being temporarily held by Gerri Harrison and Secretary, temporarily held by Domonica Creeley.

On August 23rd, NAPW Binghamton Local Chapter members and guests once again gathered at the Groundwater Sciences Corp. conference room for a networking meeting. At the August meeting, the Binghamton Chapter's Mission was formally established: To help foster growth for professional women in the Binghamton and surrounding areas.

After welcoming everyone to the meeting, Binghamton Chapter President Domonica Creeley briefly spoke about the agenda and how the meeting would progress. Members were invited to introduce themselves and talk about their expectations about being a member of NAPW. Many members spoke about the positive experiences they have had as members of NAPW.

"One of the members shared her wonderful experience at the 2012 NAPW National Networking Conference in New York City and highly recommended that everyone who had not attended this year, attend next year's function," said Domonica.

A discussion about the myriad of member benefits that NAPW offers its members then ensued and two members shared with the group how they have taken advantage of the regional and national seminars, webinars, teleconferences, on-line training, and certifications that members have access to at great discounts.

"Two members shared their positive experience with the Star 12 Programs, one member has been attending classes in Syracuse put on by the Star 12 Program and another has taken advantage of the webinars," said Domonica. "Both recommended that the other members in attendance check them out."

With the help of Binghamton Chapter Charity Chair Rebecca Zeeuw, a list of three charities that the Chapter would support was presented to the group. Members went around the room and discussed the different charities, personal connections to each, each charity's goals, and how the Chapter could help each one. Members voted and agreed to support Mom's House, which offers young single mothers a safe place for child care, helps them with finishing school and finding jobs, and offers a wonderful support system; the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which promotes and supports early breast cancer detection, research, and education, and the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women, which encourages and supports awareness, research, education, and community programs to help women understand their risk of heart disease.

"Rebecca will be looking into the charities' events and pulling together a list of dates. We would like to attend these events as a team and help out each of these wonderful causes," said Domonica.

Chapter members also discussed plans for future meetings, meeting locations, and guest speakers. Currently, the Chapter is researching women-owned local restaurants for upcoming meeting venues. Several members volunteered to be guest speakers at future meeting. On September 27th Betsy Dunda will speak on the topic of Transitions; the October 25th meeting will feature Cassandra Carter, who will speak about self-esteem, and at the November 15th meeting, Diane Lange will offer a presentation on stress reduction.

"We have tapped into our wonderful Chapter for our future guest speakers," said Domonica. "We are all looking forward to these wonderful guest speakers and topics."

The Binghamton Chapter also discussed reaching out to other local chapters in the area, to hold a meet and greet with other NAPW members, to help grow its network of professional women, and help showcase the wonderful businesses, people, and opportunities available as a NAPW community. fashion jackets

The Chapter discussed their Facebook page and the Chapter President shared the helpful tips that were discussed on the President's conference call on August 22nd. The Binghamton Chapter brainstormed ways to engage other members to attend meetings, and discussed venues and locations. Tips For Gorgeous Hair That Won't Cost a Dime!

Every woman wants beautiful hair - whether her hair be long, short or in between. And, it's not just about some glitzy shampoo that a sexy model advertises on TV!

So, what can we do for gorgeous hair?

1) Eat right - as I've stated before, it's supposed to be a duh, but it really is something we Americans struggle with. However, proper nutrition is the cornerstone for health AND beauty.

2) Drink plenty of water - again, a duh - and again, not enough of us do it.

3) Exercise - I know, UGH! But, increased blood flow, better Circulation and heart health and better overall health SHOW via our skin, nails and hair.

4) Scalp stimulation. This isn't just for Hair Growth, it helps scalp health as well. Here's a couple of good tips:

a) Sitting comfortably grab handfuls of your hair and gently pull straight out. Do this all over your head twice. Try to do this each day - before a shower or washing your hair.

b) Reflexology for the head...how can it help? Well, much in the same way as my previous tip. Scalp stimulation and the unclogging of hair follicles contributes to both growth and health of hair. Sitting comfortably, form your hands into loose fists. Taking the knuckles of your hands, gently tap all over your head - making sure you get ALL of your head at least twice. Believe it or not, you'll actually feel a cool/tingling sensation when you're done. Now, don't hit too hard - that'll just give you an unattractive and painful lump!

c) My gramma SWORE by this one and I have to admit that although, even as a Dr. of Reflexology, I have NO idea why it works, it does work. Try this for getting your hair to grow. Position the fingernails of each hand towards each other with hands cupped. BRISKLY buff nails of your hands together (back and forth) for at least five minutes a day. Now, head reflexes are at the tips of fingers, and maybe that is why this works so well. But, for whatever reason, it rocks :)

5) A good shampoo and conditioner - and, if you do some searches in this site, or go to http://www.natural-Herbs-remedies.com/ and hit 'natural recipes' - you'll find some great natural s women's coats hampoos, conditioners and 'problem fixers' that are really inexpensive to make - many times using things already found in your fridge.

6) Ok, I fibbed - this tip will cost some money - but nearly everyone recognizes the need for some Supplements in their daily routine so I figured I'd include a few that are great for hair.

a) Biotin - Contained naturally in foods such as cheese, raspberries, eggs, liver, chicken and avocados, most people get enough Biotin in their regular diets without ever having to worry about a deficiency. The function of Biotin is to help the body make use of essential folic acids, pantothenic acid, protein and vitamin B-12. Although very rare, Biotin deficiency can cause fatigue, Hair Loss, depression, skin rash and skin discoloration. I get my Biotin from Hair, Skin & Nails by Rexall and I love it!

b) Omega-3 Fish Oils - Just as I've recommended for skin, Fish Oils rock for the hair too. Fish Oil helps maintain a good luster of the hair. Omega three has hair growing properties as it provides nourishment to the follicles. It therefore aids in faster development of hair and preventing Hair Loss. A good supply of Proteins is also necessary for Hair Growth. Since most fish varieties are rich in protein, eating fish helps in keeping healthy hair.

c) Flax Seed Oil - Promote healthy hair and nails. The abundant Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Flaxseed oil have been shown to contribute to healthy Hair Growth (in fact, low levels of these acids may cause dry and lackluster locks). Hair problems exacerbated by Psoriasis or Eczema of the scalp may respond to the skin-revitalizing and anti-inflammatory actions of Flaxseed oil as well. Similarly, the oil's EFAs work to nourish dry or brittle nails, stopping them from cracking or splitting.

d) A good Multi-Vitamin - this is just a great staple to include regardless.

7) My final tip? Beer. Good ol' cheapo beer - you know, like PBR or Busch. As a matter of fact, make it warm, stale beer! (yes, I'm serious) The Proteins from the malt and Hops in the beer coat the hair and build it up and help repair damage. It leaves the hair with wonderful body. After your shampoo, rinse your hair with a little beer. This can help restore shine. Honestly, it makes your hair shinier than any fancy-schmancy conditioner or treatment I've ever found. This is one I'll swear by!

Here's a couple of recipes to get you started:

Beer Shampoo

* 3/4 cup beer (any cheap brand) * 1 cup inexpensive shampoo

Boil the beer until it reduces to 1/4 cup. Cool the beer and add it to the 1 cup of inexpensive shampoo

Beer Hair Rinse

If you want to do something nice for your hair, rinse it once a month with flat beer. After applying the beer, you can rinse the hair with warm water or not, as you choose. The beer acts as a natural setting lotion, giving blow-dried hair increased vitality, resilience and hold. The B Vitamins and natural sugar add body and shine. Don't worry; the stale beer smell will disappear very quickly.

Super Body Hair Treatment

* 2 tablespoons molasses * 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine * 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk * 1 tablespoon stale beer

Combine ingredients in a small bowl. Comb or brush into hair. Cover hair with a plaster shower cap or wrap with a Sheet of plastic wrap. Cover with a thick terrycloth towel. Leave the treatment on for 30 minutes, then rinse in warm water. Shampoo the hair.

That's about it for now - but I think it's enough to start you on the road to gorgeous, shiny hair!

Ear Infection In Dogs - Symptoms and Causes

Brian Kilcommons relates a terrible story about a beautiful golden retriever dog who was usually very gentle and kind with children. It's owners had a girl aged 3 1/2, and they normally got along very well. Then one day the little girl grabbed the dog's ear. It snarled and bit her face. She needed 47 stitches in her face, and they put the dog down. The parents had the dog euthanized without bothering to find out what had caused this sudden change in their dog's behaviour. The vet, however, did an autopsy, and found our that this dog was suffering not one but two severe ear infections that were incredibly painful.

Ear infections usually start out mild, and in the outer ear. This dog's health was effectively neglected by it's owners. And when their toddler grabbed the infected ear, the dog, already in constant pain anyway, reacted out of instinct. By not taking the time to properly care for their pet, these owners were in fact responsible for what happened to their child. And then blamed the dog. And probably out of ignorance or anger, or both, they had it killed. Their emotional response to what happened to their child as a result of their own neglect aside, I find this absolutely reprehensible. And the tragedy that happened to their dog when they chose to kill it instead of investigating further, as well as their child, was totally avoidable.

Unlike these owners, show your dog the same level of care and love you'd show your children. Become aware of the signs of ear infections, what causes them, and how to avoid them, taking dogs to get treatment when it seems like they have one.

Ear infections can be caused by any number of things. Wet ears not dried after swimming or bathing, a build up of ear wax, grass seeds and fox tails, untreated ear mites, using cotton tips to clean ears (which pushes things further into the ear), and growths in the ear canal, can all lead to ear infections. If your dog is scratching at his ears, rubbing them, holding his head to one side, or down, shaking his head, or if they look bloody or waxy or swollen, they should be checked out. And if he cries when his ears are touched, this is another sign of a potential ear infection.

When untreated ear infections progress deeper into the ear, the pain the dog is in increases sharply. The dog may hold his head as still as possible, and to one side. And opening his mouth, or touching his head, will cau women's coats se him pain. Dogs can also become dizzy, with poor balance and coordination, when the infection progresses to the inner ear. Dogs may walk around in circles, and vomit.

Ear infections are also related to skin allergies, especially food hypersensitivity dermatitis and canine atopy. Dogs with these conditions often develop inflamed ears. The dog's ears become very itchy, which creates an 'itch-scratch-itch' cycle that in turn creates scabs around the ear, hair loss, crustiness, and raw skin. The ear canals become filled with a brown wax.

Some dogs are also allergic to some ear medications. A common one is an antibiotic called neomycin, but can be any ear treatment products including cortisone, nystatin, chloramphenicol, thiabendazole, gentamicin, miconazole, and clortrimazole.

One thing of concern in dogs that are professionally groomed is the practice of plucking the hairs out of the dog's ear. The serum which then comes out of their pores is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria, which is a common cause of ear infection. Vets generally don't recommend you allow your dog's ears to be plucked unless their is a good medical reason to do so. An example of a good medical reason is if there is a large mat of hair that is blocking air flow.

If the mats of hair are in the ear canal, they should be removed by a vet only. If they're not, first soak the hair in a coat conditioner for a few minutes to soften it. Then, with your fingers, separate as much of the mat as possible. You may be able to untangle the rest of the mat with a comb, but more likely you'll need scissors or a mat splitter. Be very careful if you're using scissors. Using a comb, position it under the mat to protect the skin. Hold the scissors at right angles to the comb, and cut into the matted fur in narrow strips. Very gently, tease the mat out, and then comb out any snarls that are left. Regular grooming, with the right tools, will avoid mats forming in the first place.

Always check your dog's ears after he's been playing in long grasses. If you think there is a foxtail in his ear, take him to the vet's and don't try and get it out yourself. Fox tails can really damage the ear. If when you press gently on the ear canal he cries out in pain, there's a good chance there's a fox tail in there.

Safety First For The Handyman

A mistreated connecting cord is often the cause of an appliance's breakdown. See that wires are well-insulated and don't abuse them

When a plug is removed from its outlet, a knot often forms in the cord because of the curl in the wire. Open it before reinserting the plug. If knotted cord is yanked, it can sever the wire within the cord.

Some floor lamps provide no protection for the wire at point of emergence. Moving the lamp just a few times when cleaning the room will cause a short circuit. A layer of tape is an effective preventive measure.

Don't let a cord get pinched in a section of a dropleaf table,- if the wire is crushed, remove wall plug before touching it because strands sticking through insulation might well be "hot." Reinforce damaged section with layer of tape of nearest matching color. For white cord, white adhesive tape from the family medicine chest is ideal. Colored "Scotch" tape is also OK.

Many attachment plugs are made very cheaply of fragile compositions known in the trade as "molded mud." !t is little wonder that they break up when stepped on or burn up when subjected to heavy current overloads. When buying replacement plugs, look for smooth, well-formed bodies, securely fastened prongs, terminal screws with broad heads, and fiber protection washers to fit over prongs and terminals, for your protection.

Never attempt to salvage a damaged plug by fastening the pieces together with tape or string. If the connecting cord is still in good condition, cut it off close to the plug, and discard the pieces of the latter. Use diagonal cutters, or heavier "electrician's pliers." Examine wire carefully and trim off any sections near the end that show signs of crushing or bruising; these can be dangerous when you use the plug in the future.

In preparing old cord for new a women's jackets online ttachment plug, first separate the ends a distance of about an inch and a half. Some cords require a sharp knife for this job; others in common use can be "zipped" apart without tools. Be especially careful not to damage insulation covering on each one of the individual wires.
Using the sharp edge of knife, pare off insulation on each end of wire a distance of about a half inch.

The next step in attaching a new plug is to twist together the loose strands at end of wires.

With back edge of knife, scrape end of wires clean and bright. Don't touch with fingers after this.

Apply thin coat of solder to each wire. This stiffens wires and makes them easier to fasten under the plug.

Immediately after soldering the loose end strands of the wire, poke the cord through the attachment plug. Try to use one with a long neck or handle, which is very convenient for removing purposes.

Starting from the pared ends of the wires, apply a layer of strong electrical tape back along the cord a distance equal to the length of the plug plus about a half inch. This tape will reinforce the insulation.

The wires are much easier to connect under the terminal screws of the attachment plug if they are first formed into U-shaped loops. Use long-nosed pliers to close the loops under screws and tighten.

When securing the wires under the terminal screws, make certain that no loose strands stick out. These are often the cause of overheating at the plug or of blown-out fuses. If appliance is of portable type and plug is inserted and removed frequently, make periodic examination of terminals and tighten again if necessary.

An old unused lamp may be restored to service by following simple directions in replacing the cord. Often., that's all there is wrong with lamp.

Take some extra care with electrical cords and your appliances will give longer service.

Healthy Salad Dressings Made Easy

With warmer weather looming on the horizon in Northern America, many women and men start to simplify and streamline their diets fashion coats online . Gone are the heavy chili dinners and beef stews that fill our bellies in the dead of winter. Enter the salad: cool, fresh, crisp bursts of flavor - but not necessarily a significant caloric savings over a meat and potatoes dinner. The culprit: creamy, oil based dressings. The solution: for most, it's to take their dressing on the side.

Traditional commerically prepared salad dressings are an easy way to turn a healthy salad into a calorie-dense, fat-laden disaster. Bottled dressings can have anywhere from 8 to 20 grams of fat per serving.

Take your dressing on the side? Never! At least, there?€?s never a need when you make your own healthy salad dressings.

Of course, you can buy decent commercial low-fat dressings, or even organic dressings but, more often than not, they are loaded with unhealthy elements like sugar and heavy amounts of heart-unhealthy sodium.

It?€?s hard, however, to beat a homemade dressing!

The key to making delicious healthy dressings at home is to reduce the oils and other fats, and bump up the ingredients that add texture and flavor.

The oil in any salad dressing serves several functions, including providing a ?€?cling" or "binding" factor, so your acidic and other flavorings (such as vinegar and herbs) don?€?t end up in a puddle at the bottom of the bowl.

Oil also serves to soften and balance the acids so that they're more pleasing to the pallate.

When thinking of healthier dressings, most people eschew creamy dressings in favor of lighter vinaigrettes. But classic vinaigrettes often use a 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 ratio of fat to acid (for example: olive oil and red wine vinegar). Such a ratio can yield at least 10 grams of fat per tablespoon! And who uses just one tablespoon?

So what constitutes a healthy salad dressing?

Let's look at oil.

When choosing oils for your dressing, think carefully about flavors. Extra-virgin olive oil is almost always an excellent healthful and flavorful choice. But so are nut oils such as almond, macadamia and hazelnut. Each contributes complex yet subtle flavors that can complement a salad. Olive and nut oils also are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats.

You can reduce the amount of oil, however, in any dressing by approximately 40 percent if the other ingredients that balance the dressing are not too acidic.

A common complaint when reducing the oil content of a dressing recipe is that one often misses the thick texture that oil adds to your recipes. Try adding Dijon mustard as an emulsifier to make up for the reduced oil. Like oil, mustard is thick enough to bind the other ingredients and adds a tangy flavor.

In creamy dressings, the emulsifier often is sour cream or mayonnaise (and sometimes oil, too). Providing a healthy option for these ingredients is an easy fix.

Nonfat yogurt, reduced-fat sour cream, and reduced-fat mayonnaise all make good substitutes. They each have good flavor and produce dressings that hold together and coat vegetables quite well.

Or try buttermilk. Buttermilk is always either nonfat or reduced-fat. Its thick texture and mild, tangy flavor makes it a useful ingredient.

With a little bit of ingenuity and creativity, it is possible to make healthy salad dressings without sacrificing good nutrition by cutting calories, fat and chemicals.

Bathroom Remodeling: Creative Ideas That Don't Cost Much

The look of your bathroom doesn't need to reflect what you do in it. It is time to make the bathroom your favorite room in the house.

Full bathroom remodeling can be very expensive and aggravating but there are several simple ways to spruce up your bathroom without breaking the bank or living in a construction site for a month.

Embrace the ugly

Does your bathroom look like it came straight out of the 70s? Perhaps you have pink tiles with a matching pink tub and toilet. It is expensive a women's jackets nd difficult to replace a tub and toilet, so how do you modernize without a complete overhaul?

Embrace the ugly. Work with the pink ceramic rather than pretend it isn't there. How do you do that? Purchase a new rug, shower curtain, and other accessories that feature pink (or whatever color you're trying to accept) as an accent color.

Lighten up

Bathrooms are often cramped and undersized. In most cases, it is not feasible to really enlarge the room, but a color change can provide for a virtual expansion.

Bright colors are hot and popular but any light color will make your bathroom feel roomier. Even if you are not looking to expand, treat your bathroom to a fresh coat of paint.

Work miracles with hardware

If your cabinets are in good shape all you need to do is replace your cabinet handles with new trendy knobs to give a fresh new look. The same effect occurs when you replace faucets, towel bars, soap dishes, or any other outdated hardware.

Swapping your shiny brass hardware with up-to-date fashionable pieces does miracles. Hardware changes often make the biggest difference without costing much.

Feed your Vanity

A whole new look can be achieved by simply changing vanity cabinets or maybe install a pedestal sink. Your local home improvement store should have several styles and online stores generally have even more options. Most varieties are sold for less than $500 and this is a small price to pay for a big change.

A change in mirrors will also bring a new look. There are so many fun and unique mirrors out there that can really spruce up the vanity and showcase your personal style. Make your new vanity complete with new light fixtures such as sconces or a fixture with chic frosted or marbled glass.

Make sure your new fixtures are bright enough to do your make-up correctly but not blinding. Also, look for fixtures that use environmentally friendly bulbs.

Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

This is your opportunity to go crazy at the home decor store. Find fun accessories that you like within your color scheme. Remember that everything doesn't have to match in color or pattern; things just need to coordinate with each other or include a hint of a common accent color.

Make sure that most of your accessories have function rather than just take up space. You can do this by finding unique toothbrush holders, hand towels, soap dispensers, clocks, and wall hangings.

Clean up after yourself

Eliminate the cluttered feeling by installing an attractive wall cabinet or storage unit. This way you will be able to hide all the unsightly products you've collected but can't seem to give up. And remember to clean up everything yourself. An uncluttered space gives the illusion of a large and spacious room.

Be a copy cat

If you are still feeling unconfident about your decoration abilities, remember it is okay to cheat. Find something in a magazine that you like and copy it. There is no shame in creating a beautiful room, even if you did see it somewhere else first.

Now that you have the tools and the know-how to remodel your bathroom without knocking down a single wall, go for it. Have fun and get in touch with your creative side. After you're done, you'll have a room that you'll never want to leave.

Running Challenge: Chicago Winter Running

For runners all across the United States, the change in seasons can have different effects on their running schedule and performance depending on where they live. For instance if it is summer time and you are from Houston, TX, then chances are that you are going to either run in the early mornings or late evenings when the suns strength is at a low. No matter where you are from the trick is to find out what time of day, equipment and running schedule will best complement you depending on where you live and what time of year it is. The following is a glimpse into my run today, February 24, in Chicago, Illinois.

I am trying to get back into shape for summer which will be here before we know it so I decide to face Mother Nature and start running outside. Before I get dressed for my run I look at the thermostat on my front porch and see that it is 33 degrees outside and the trees are moving around on my front lawn so I know that it is a little windy outside. I also take a look at the street and see that it snowed enough last night to leave a fresh layer of snow on the pavement, just enough to cover the ground. Taking the weather conditions into account I put on a pair of sweatpants, a sports tank top covered by a zip up turtle neck and all enclosed by an Under Armor fleece running jacket. Before I head outside I also put on a pair of mittens and a hat.

The first thing I notice as I begin my run is the tightness in my lungs. When the air is 3 women's coats online 3 degrees and your body is around 98 degree the temperature difference puts a strain on your lungs because you are not only breathing but your body is also trying to warm the air as you breathe it in. So it is a little hard to breathe but after about half a miles my body starts to get us to it.

The next thing I realize is that I am running with a little wider gait because the ground is slippery from the fresh coat of snow. My pace is definitely slowed because I would rather be cautious and not hurt myself than fall.

Around the 1 mile mark my body starts to go from cold to warm and as I begin to perspire under my 3 layers of clothing, I am forced to unzip my jacket a big and take off my mittens and but them in my pockets. The rest of the run goes pretty smoothly as my body has adjusted to the conditions, but as I get to the last half mile and my body is getting exhausted things start to break down. My nose starts to run uncontrollably, I can feel the bottoms of my earlobes throbbing in warmth under my hat and my toes start to numb. I know from experience that this is exhaustion setting in and my body is sensing this and attempting to tell me it is ready to stop.

I push through the last half mile and when I get back to my front porch I feel extremely warm and immediately begin to strip off the top layer of clothing. I know to only stay out side for a minute or two to walk around and catch my breath but not to stay to long as to get a chill.

Many factors play into running in cold snowy temperatures and only experience can help to prepare you for exactly what to wear, how to breathe and wear to step so you don't slip. No matter where you live in the country different temperatures and conditions present different challenges, the trick is to listen to your body and think ahead of your run as to what to expect.

Dating Dislikes: Four Traits that Girls Won't Accept

When out on a date, especially a first date, most people will be flexible in what they do and don't find acceptable, but there are a few things that are definitely date breakers so if you're planning a date in the future, keep these in mind or you'll find that a follow-up date won't be happening!

Being late: This is a double standard unfortunately! Girls are notoriously late for dates, they turn up 5-10 minutes late smiling, apologizing profusely and giving their appearance as the excuse for their tardiness. They won't think for a moment that you minded being there on your own wondering if they were going to show or not.

On the other side of the coin however, if you leave your date waiting while you turn up late, no amount of excuses, even genuine ones like you missed the bus, car broke down, etc - are acceptable. You were late, "Strike 1"! While you still may survive to another date, the episode won't be forgotten and she'll probably always refer back to that date as "the one I thought you'd stood me up!" So, unless you can let your date know in advance that you may be late, don't be!

Lack of effort with appearance: If you're off on a date make sure that you put some effort into your appearance. You don't need designer clothes or expensive cologne, but you do need to look as if you're clean and tidy! Your clothes should look freshly laundered and without stains. Your hair should look as if it's seen a comb, and if you're clean shaven make sure that you are clean shaven! Your date will put considerable effort into looking her best for you, and she will feel you are disrespecting her if you don't make at least some attempt to dress up for her.

Self-importance: Girls are interested in you, but they don't want to hear about you all night. Even if they ask you questions and you have to answer them, find a balance between information and too much information! Answering with single word answers is going to make the grade either, but keep your answers short and then turn the question back to your date.

She may or may not want to talk about herself, but what she will think about later (or her friends will point out when s fashion coats online he tells them about the date) is that you talked all night about yourself, so play down your importance in your workplace, tell her what you do but not how you do it, tell her you've traveled and a summary of where but don't sound like a travel guide! Girls are usually more attracted to a guy who underplays his abilities so retain a little bit of mystery and try to draw them out instead.

Lack of respect: Respect comes in many guises on a date, and many of them are within the minefield of male-female roles. Offer to take her coat, pull out her chair etc. on a first date and see how she reacts. If you get a negative response to this, take this as a sign she thinks you assume she's inferior and don't do it again! Let her make her own choices from the menu, don't assume that you know best even if the restaurant is one of your regular places to eat.

Advise her on what you think is good, but let her make up her own mind. Don't always choose the locations of the dates; keep an equal balance. Don't always insist on paying, even if she's got a lower income she still has self-respect. If the date is expensive, tell her that you'll pay this one and she can buy you coffee tomorrow, thereby assuring yourself of a follow-up date as well as letting her keep her dignity.

Don't patronize or monopolize the conversation or she'll think that you're not interested in her at all. All of these things are annoying on their own, but added together they give the impression that you don't respect her as your equal and she's not going to stick around long!

Although there can be other things that girls don't like on a date, most of them will be forgiven, but the four listed above are an almost guarantee that your date is not going to readily agree to go on another date with you!

Excellent Physical Conditioning Not Good For Muscle Bound Idiot

Judy was a 25 year old female aerobics instructor. She was in excellent physical condition. She was a very beautiful woman. She was not muscular, but she had a natural feminine flare. She was the envy of all the women in her class and the women of every guys dreams. She had an exboyfriend named Troy who was very jealous.

She had broken up with him a few weeks ago and was trying to get on with her life. He was not completely over her. He hated to see her talk to any other guy and he was not afraid to let her know it. He was a very muscular fellow, but not in the best aerobic condition. He was more into packing on the muscles than aerobics.

He just did not want to let her go. One day while she was teaching an aerobics class, Troy interrupted. He made a scene and Judy finally had to let her students reschedule the class. When she and Troy were alone in the room they argued. Some of the students over heard Troy say, if he could not have her then no one would.

He turned and left the room in a rage. The students tried to convince Judy to report him. She was so nice that she just wanted to forget it. Later that evening, Judy was about to leave the gym for home. She packed her stuff and walked out into the parking lot. She saw Troy in the parking lot. He hastily moved toward Judy.

He said, Judy when are you going to stop this nonsense and come back to me. She said, I have told you a million times it is over and I mean it, now move. Something must have triggered in Troy. He grabbed Judy around her neck with his massive hands and started to choke her. She struggled but it was no use.

Then she remembered something about defending herself. She kneed Troy in the groin, which broke his attack, and she ran. He regained composure and proceeded to chase her. Luckily she was in excellent aerobic condition and was able to out run him and get help. She reported the incident to police and Troy was arrested. Her excellent physical conditioning had probably saved her life.

You should always stay in the best physical condition possible. Excellent physical conditioning will help ward off attackers. When an opportunity to escape presents itself you may have to flee. If you are in better shape than your attacker you will have a better chance of escape. Not every one is in tiptop physical conditioning, so you will women's jackets have to come up with alternatives to defend yourself.

During any attack or assault there will be many opportunities to escape. You must recognize them and utilized every method at your disposal. Your goal is not to defeat the criminal, but to allow yourself time to escape. When physical conditioning is not on your side, choose other ways to defend yourself. The list is never ending. Always have a self defense strategy in mind in case of emergency.

Australian Cattle Dog -This Months Best Dog Breed

The Australian Cattle Dog, or Blue Heeler, is also known as the Australian Heeler, Hall's Heeler, Queensland Heeler, or Red Heeler. The term "heeler" refers to the breed's instinct to snap and bite at the heels of the animals they are herding.

They have alert and happy facial expressions, pointed ears, and although they appear small, they are muscular and agile. They come in a mixture of colors--mostly blue with tan and black, or mostly red speckled.

They were bred as a combination of Scottish collies and Australian dingoes and blended with some Australian Kelpie, Dalmatian, and Bull Terrier to be an extremely hardy breed that can withstand long hours and harsh weather conditions with ease.

ACD's are more 'work-minded' than other herding breeds and as a rule, are not as good as pets because of the aggressive characteristics specifically bred into them. But, as with every breed, there are often exceptions to the rule.

Here's the breakdown:

Temperament 2 out of 5

The Australian Cattle Dog is an excellent companion and is always awaiting the next command from its master. But ACD's need a lot of exercise or they women's jackets will become highly destructive.

About two hours a day is ideal. They need to be with their pack (that means you!) most of the day or else they develop behavioral problems. These can include severe aggression, depression, or anxiety. This is not a breed to leave at home for hours on end, nor tied up in the back yard. If an ACD must be left alone, they will do best with one or two other dogs for companionship. They are bred to be highly sensitive guard dogs, so as a rule they do not like strangers coming onto their property.

ACD's should be socialized regularly if you want them to be friendly toward other animals and guests. ACD's do not distinguish a difference between wild animals or your small pets, so they are not recommended around cats, rabbits, mice, or smaller dogs. Most of the time, a well-socialized ACD will do well with children, but they are not recommended. They often herd children, so keep an eye on them--you don't want them to snap at your child's heels. Even a highly socialized dog can be aggressive, depending on the child it interacts with.

Training 5 out of 5

ACD's have what I like to call, "extreme intelligence." Like Border Collies, they can be trained to do just about anything. The downside of a highly sophisticated breed, though, is that they become bored easily so you always need to have a job for them. The sky is the limit on what you can teach them.

ACD's can be very independent and stubborn due to their intelligence, so firm training is a must. This breed responds well to consistent training and discipline, although they catch on quick and hate to disappoint their masters.

Grooming 4 out of 5

The ACD's short coat is weather resistant but they are average shedders so brush often with a firm bristle. You only need to bathe when necessary. They never need shaving or haircuts--their coat has been developed to endure all kinds of weather. Never dock their tail--they need it for work! Even the AKC recognizes a full tail, so there's never a need to dock.

Overall Score 3.5 out of 5

ACD's weigh about 30-55 pounds and live about 12 to 15 years. They do best on the farm with animals to herd, but if you don't raise cattle or sheep, a large yard will do, along with plenty of exercise.

ACD's are great candidates for competitions such as agility trials, flyball, frisbee, and of course, herding. I recommend ACD's for owners who wish to work with their dog, compete with them, or give them a job on the farm. They are not suited for suburban or city life.

They tend to be very vocal so its best not to have neighbors too close by. If you're buying your ACD puppy from a breeder, consider purchasing two or three from the same litter. They'll be happier pets in the long run having their brothers and sisters with them. Adopting an ACD is tricky if you have existing pets, so make sure you talk with the organization you're adopting from--they'll know if that particular ACD would do well with other animals.

How To Finish Your Wooden Model Car

Do you love woodworking? Have you built wooden model cars and they look beautiful for a bit and then they begin to discolor? If so then you should consider adding a finish to your model car by applying varnish. While there are two main types of varnish here we will discuss one only. Traditional varnish can be slow drying, and extremely hard to clean up. Water based polyurethane varnish however is much easier to handle as it cleans up with water. It also drys very quickly. Varnish must be brushed in, allowed to dry, and sanded down. It must be repeated so that you get a uniform coating to the part that on which the varnish is being applied.

Some things that you will need together before you begin are your water-based polyurethane varnish in the shade that you want your model car to be, some sandpaper that is either 220 grit or finer (if you are unsure how to tell what the grit is just ask a sales associate to help you), a tack cloth to prevent spills, a synthetic bristle paintbrush that is easy to handle and not too large or too small for the work you will be doing, and a small disposable container.

When you go to buy the varnish just keep in mind that it, like paint, is available in a variety of finishes. Whether you choose flat, matte, satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss will just depend on what your want your model to look like when it is finished. Flat has no shine to it at all and does not fair extremely well over time, high-gloss, however, is very bright and and is a good deal tougher. You should make sure that you are going to be painting your wooden model in an area that dust free and well ventilated. Dust will adhere to your model and show up quite clearly after the model has been varnished.

You will likewise want to make sure the model itself is clean and dust free. If you need to clean it before hand a tack cloth is the recommended method. It will remove any debris without leaving behind lint. Now that you are ready make sure to stir your varnish well. Once you do so then pour some of it into your disposable container. Recap your varnish and set it aside. By using your other container you will make it easier to prevent spills it will also help you to prevent contaminating your original can of varnish with dust or debris.

When you begin to paint the water-based polyurethane varnish onto your model make sure that you are using very smooth and even strokes. You will also want to follow the grain. By holding the brush as vertical as possible you will be able to prevent some uneven strokes. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should allow each coat of varnish to dry thoroughly. You will know it is dry when it feels dry to the touch. Much of the drying time depends on the temperature and the relative humidity.

After you have left the first coat to dry you should then sand the surface with your sandpaper and then clean the model with a tack cloth once more to remove any additional women's coats online sawdust that has built up after sanding. Keep repeating this process until you reach the look you are wanting. Once you do then let the piece set for one week for the varnish to cure. If you will then rub your model car with "0000" steel wool and clean it with a tack cloth you will be able to apply a paste wax. This can give you the best looking wooden model car possible.

Anti Slip Resin Floors - A Primer

Although there are many different kinds of resin floors, there is a specific demand for an anti-slip version in virtually all of them. Floors can be made anti-slip by a variety of means, but most techniques include the use of an oxide or quartz at the surface to impart a texture.

We will consider the three main resin systems which are roller coatings, self levellers and screeds. Generally the thicknesses of these systems are 100 and 500 microns, 1mm to 4mm, and 6mm to 9mm respectively.

Due to the thin section of coatings, there is a restriction on the size of aggregate, and therefore the value of slip resistance, available. The size of aggregate should never exceed twice the thickness of the coating because it would be susceptible to being plucked out by sheer forces.

The installation process is simple enough, but it must always be borne in mind that the success of this system is very dependent upon correct and adequate surface preparation. Too little preparation and the coating will peel off in sheets due to lack of adhesion, too much and the texture will show through a thin coating. For this reason the installation of coatings is best left to professionals.

Once the first primer coat has been rolled down, the selected aggregate is scattered into it. Dependent upon how much anti-slip is required, the size and distribution of the additive will be varied. The choice of additive also varies from Bauxite and granite which are both exceptionally hard wearing, to marble and carborundum, which both offer decorative effects.

Once the scatter has taken place, the primer should be left to cure. A top sealer coat is then applied, and this fastens the aggregate in place. The next thickness of resin floor is the self-leveller. There are two ways of rendering this anti-slip.

Firstly, after the resin has been laid, a quartz aggregate is scattered into it until the resin is absolutely saturated in aggregate and in fact is not visible due to the volume of aggregate scattered. The method of scattering the aggregate must be in small quantities which are broadcast in a similar fashion to that used for feeding chickens with corn. No large clumps or massive hand full should be dropped in one spot, because it could completely disturb the resin leaving a bald spot on the floor.

The floor is left to cure, and then it is swept to remove all loose aggregate. All remaining aggregate is bonded to the resin, but as with the roller-coat, it is subjected to a top sealer coat to fasten the aggregate in place. The deeper section of the self-leveller enables larger aggregate to be used, and thus a substantial anti-slip profile can be achieved.

The ability to clean the floor must always be considered when selecting the anti-slip materials.

The second way of achieving anti-slip is by laying the self-leveller with a smooth surface profile, and then sealing it after it has cured, with a top coat into which a fine aggregate can be scattered. A second top-coat fastens the aggregate in place.

This system is normally used when a fine surface texture is required since only small aggregate can be used in the top sealer coat due to its thin section.

Screeds which are generally 6mm upwards normally have a heavy duty aggregate added to them as part of their natural make-up. If coarse sand is one component, then this no fashion jackets online rmally imparts a good anti-slip texture to the finished screed which might need no further treatment to render it anti-slip.

Where the screeds are laid and finished with a steel trowel to a smooth finish, if anti-slip is required, it would generally be imparted by the use of a top sealer-coat with aggregate scattered in, as for coatings and self- levellers.
